A silent threat
to sight

Glaucoma can be sneaky. It can develop slowly over time, and often shows no symptoms in its earliest stages. For most people, the first warning sign is some degree of vision impairment. The best way to catch glaucoma early is through regular eye exams with your eye doctor.

Glaucoma is similar to a clog in a sink

Imagine your sink. When water builds up, it’s usually the result of a blockage in one of three places: At the drain, in the “s” shaped trap under the sink, or somewhere further down in the house plumbing. With glaucoma, this buildup of intraocular pressure can also occur at several points of your eye’s natural drainage system.

In healthy eyes, fluids continually flow and pressure within the eyes stays at a constant, balanced level. Problems occur when the flow is obstructed at three primary sites.

If a blockage occurs at any of these three areas, pressure can increase, which can lead to glaucoma. The OMNI® Surgical System helps to improve the eye’s natural outflow at these key areas, lowering the pressure on the optic nerve and helping to preserve your vision.

1. Trabecular Meshwork acts as a Drain Cover
A sponge-like tissue that liquid filters through and flows out of the eye. If the flow is obstructed, pressure can increase over time.
2. Schlemm’s Canal acts as Sink Pipes
A tube-like canal connected to the drain cover that acts as a drainpipe to keep fluid moving through the eye. This helps moderate the pressure within the eye.
3. Collector Channels act as House Plumbing
Openings connected to the eye’s drainpipe flush fluid out of the eye and help maintain normal eye pressure.
